Liquid Analysis

More information

What is liquid analysis?

Fluid analysis is the collective name for chemical, physical and/or microbiological methods used to determine the composition and properties of a fluid. The technology is used in industries ranging from process and pulp & paper to water and wastewater treatment, food, energy and HVAC systems.

Common measurement parameters for liquid analyses

Some typical quantities analysed are:

Parameter Example of use Typical sensor/device
pH/Redox Process and environmental monitoring pH/ORP electrode/transmitter
Conductivity Drinking water,Wastewater treatment plants, CIP processes, concentration determination 2 or 4 pole electrode, inductive conductivity sensor
Turbidity/mud content Drinking water, process water, breweries Optical turbidity sensor
Dissolved oxygen Bioprocess, aquaculture Optical oxygen sensor
Free chlorine/ozone Disinfection of water Chlorine analyser, photometry
Viscosity/density Oils, chemical fluids, food and liquids Viscometer
temperature Process and environmental monitoring Pt100 sensor or thermocouple
Refractive index Concentration measurement, Brix Refractometer
Photometry Concentration / Colour measurement, product identification Photometers
Oil in water / Oil on water Environmental monitoring, leak detection UV Fluorescence / Photometry
Sodium / Silicon Boiler water, steam cycle Online analyser
